Advancing Brain Health Research Through an Equity Lens

At ClarityPath, research is not just an academic exercise — it is a commitment to communities that have been underserved by mainstream health systems. Every study, every finding, every publication is a step toward a more equitable brain health landscape.

Our Commitment

Research That Bridges Discovery and Community

At ClarityPath, research is never an end in itself. Our goal is translational: to generate evidence that meaningfully improves the lives of people affected by brain health conditions, with particular attention to equity and inclusion.

We design our studies with community input, conduct analyses with scientific rigor, and translate findings into resources that reach caregivers, clinicians, and communities directly. Every step is guided by our commitment to closing health disparities that have been allowed to persist for too long.

Community-engaged design — research priorities shaped with affected communities

Interdisciplinary teams — psychiatry, psychology, neuroscience, and community expertise

Knowledge translation built in — findings become accessible resources, not just publications

Equity-first lens — race, culture, and social context are central, not peripheral

Streams of Research & Innovation

Our Research Streams

ClarityPath's research is organized into four interconnected streams, each designed to generate evidence with direct community application.

Adult Mental Health, Trauma, and Neurodevelopment

Studying adult mental health, trauma, and neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD to improve understanding, care, and public awareness.

Mental Health Trauma ADHD

Key Focus Areas

  • Trauma and its intersections with mental health outcomes in racialized communities
  • Culturally responsive approaches to adult mental health care
  • Trauma-informed frameworks in clinical and community settings
  • ADHD assessment and accommodation across diverse populations
  • Diagnosis equity and underdiagnosis in racialized and immigrant communities
  • Accessible mental health support for immigrant and diaspora communities

Geriatric Mental Health, Dementia, and Cognitive Health

Researching dementia, cognitive decline, healthy aging, and caregiver burden to support better care and clearer public education.

Dementia Geriatrics

Key Focus Areas

  • Pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD)
  • Caregiver training in DICE and P.I.E.C.E.S. frameworks
  • Culturally responsive approaches to BPSD management for racialized older adults
  • Longitudinal studies of cognitive health across diverse communities
  • Assessment tools and clinical frameworks for diverse populations
  • Social determinants of brain health: poverty, racism, isolation

Health Equity Research for Underserved Populations

Exploring the barriers that underserved communities face in mental health and brain health care to help improve access to knowledge and support.

Health Equity Community

Key Focus Areas

  • Structural and cultural barriers to mental health and brain health service access
  • Equity in dementia diagnosis and care for racialized older adults
  • Inclusive study design centring marginalized communities as active participants
  • Research on the social determinants of brain health across diverse populations
  • Evaluation of culturally responsive care models and interventions

Community Needs Assessments, Environmental Scans, and Knowledge Translation

Working with communities to identify unmet needs and turn research findings into practical, accessible resources for the public, caregivers, and providers.

Knowledge Translation Community

Key Focus Areas

  • Community needs assessments to identify unmet brain health needs
  • Environmental scans of available services and research gaps
  • Development of accessible caregiver guides and educational materials
  • Clinical summaries and practice tools for healthcare providers
  • Public education programs and digital resource distribution

Across all of these streams, ClarityPath uses rigorous research methods, including ethically approved clinical trials, systematic reviews, and environmental scans, to support innovation, develop caregiver education tools, and advance public education.

How We Work

Our Research Approach

Three pillars define how ClarityPath conducts research — ensuring every project generates knowledge that is rigorous, relevant, and equitable.

Translational

Every research project is designed from the outset to produce findings that can be translated into practical applications — clinical tools, caregiver guides, policy recommendations, or community programs.

Community-Partnered

Research priorities are co-developed with affected communities. We treat community members not as subjects but as partners — in designing studies, interpreting findings, and deciding what gets studied in the first place.

Equity-Centered

Equity is built into our methodology, not added after. We interrogate who is included in studies, who benefits from findings, and who has historically been excluded — and we act accordingly at every stage of our work.
