About Dr. Awani
Dr. Tuoyo Awani is a clinician and researcher specializing in aging and dementia care. He has dedicated over a decade to managing expressive behaviours in individuals with dementia, with a particular emphasis on nonpharmacological approaches that preserve dignity and quality of life.
Dr. Awani is a strong advocate for the inclusion of racialized individuals in dementia care research, recognizing that communities of colour are historically underrepresented in clinical trials and research studies. He actively mentors the next generation of geriatric psychiatrists and leads collaborative outreach initiatives that support dementia care across Ontario.
His work at ClarityPath reflects his commitment to ensuring that the communities most affected by dementia — racialized older adults and their families — are not only represented in research but supported through evidence-based, culturally responsive care frameworks.
As a Board Member, Dr. Awani contributes his clinical expertise and lived commitment to equity to help guide ClarityPath's research priorities and governance decisions. His perspective ensures that the Institute's work remains grounded in the realities of those it seeks to serve.
